    Asharqia Chamber reviews the technical regulations for machine safety in the "Authority for Standardization, Metrology, and Quality"

    Asharqia Chamber, in cooperation with the Saudi Organization for Standardization, Metrology, and Quality, organized a meeting that reviewed the technical regulations for machine safety and discussed the mechanism of action of the "Saber" platform, through visual communication on Tuesday evening, May 4, 2021.

    Eng. Muhammad bin Sanhat Al-Otaibi from the Product Tracking Department at the authority, who confirmed that the "Saber" platform is a product safety tool that aims to automate the tracking of products and technical processes that took place during the supply chain and raising the percentage of safe products, as it allows the local merchant and factory to register the required certificates of conformity and the issuance of conformity certificates electronically for consumer goods, whether imported or locally manufactured, to enter the Saudi market and the electronic platform aims to protect commercial establishments from cases of fraud and tampering with technical documents, in addition to ensuring that the products are free from defects that may affect the health and safety of the consumer or his environment.

    He added during the workshop moderated by a member of the Board of Directors, Bandar bin Rafi Al Jabri, that the platform aims to improve the import experience, obtain certificates of conformity and dispatches required in the Kingdom, and raise the percentage of identical products in the Kingdom, in addition to consumer protection. He pointed out that improvement processes are constantly taking place on the platform system to meet the needs of the beneficiaries, from the business sector, conformity assessment bodies, and relevant government agencies.

    For his part, Eng. Abdul Ilah bin Abdulaziz Al-Qasim from the General Administration of Technical Regulations at the Authority stated that the mobile machines are those that require their operation either during work or continuous or semi-continuous movement between a series of fixed worksites and machines that are operated without the need to move them, but it may be done. Equip it in a way that makes it easier to move from one place to another, and heavy equipment is a self-propelled machine or a trailer on wheels, crawlers or legs, with equipment or an attachment (work tool), or both, designed mainly to perform loading, transport, deployment or Compacting or digging soil trenches, rocks and other materials. Earthmoving machines can be of the type that the operator directly controls by riding on the device, or they can be controlled remotely by wire or wireless means.

    He explained that the technical regulations for these two types of machines aim to define the basic requirements for mobile machines and heavy works equipment, which are included in the field of this technical regulation, and to define conformity assessment procedures, to ensure that these products conform to the basic requirements that aim to maintain the health and safety of their users and the consumer in general. Preserving the environment and facilitating market survey procedures.

    Al-Qassem pointed to several conformity assessment procedures, whereby the supplier must obtain a conformity certificate issued by a body acceptable to the authority, and safety components, interchangeable equipment, spare parts for mobile machinery and heavy works equipment - for models that obtained a conformity certificate - are exempt from the conformity assessment procedures, and the supplier To the Saudi market by the manufacturer or the official representative of the manufacturer in the Kingdom, and the supplier must obtain an inspection certificate issued by a body acceptable to the authority, concerning​​ mobile machinery and used heavy works equipment.​
